Corylopsis

On winterhazels, plants on wheels, and the upside-down world of winter bloomers

Corylopsis, the winterhazels, are bewitching plants. When I discovered there were really only six species of witch hazel total I was pretty disappointed. Discovering Corylopsis then was like finding out that the beautiful woman you've fallen in love with actually has thirty-five cousins, all just as enchanting and attractive.

In the winter my plants are on wheels. Plants under my care start their lives in hypertufa pots on a northerly wall of my house right next to the kitchen door. I put them here or there, changing my mind every time a new consideration strikes me, for weeks or months until it feels right. I'm constantly moving everything. Most of this is because I have no idea what I'm doing.
